What advice do you have for people who want to have a club like this?
1) Learn HTML. It's easy and important. Don't rely on HTML
publishing software.
2) Choose everything carefully. You will have to live with your decisions
for a long time. You will not want to change anything later, because
people will have bookmarks to it and it will be listed in search engines.
Choose your ISP with the long-term possibilities in mind, as well as the
high-volume realities.
3) Get 1000 pictures before you even start. If the subject of your club
doesn't have 1000 significantly different pictures, you may not have a
very interesting club.
4) Be very friendly, positive, and upbeat. This is for your web pages,
email messages, everything. Never sound even remotely critical,
complaining, or whiny. Don't denigrate anyone or anything, because
this will offend many people.
5) Have a thick skin. Some people will write negative messages to you.
This is part of the package when it comes to interacting with the whole
world on the web. Luckily for me, I haven't had much of a problem.
How do you pay for the expenses of the club?
Out of my pocket :-) I've never expected to turn a profit doing this,
and that is simply out of the question. After 5 years of operating the club
for free, I tried asking for donations
online as a way of covering the growing expenses of the club. That didn't
work, so I cut my expenses and started using free services on the web
that include advertising.
Where are all these Keanu websites you run, anyway?
I'm glad you asked! Here is the current list of Romeo's Keanu websites.
There used to be more, and I will resurrect the others as I can get to it:
